Family Law Solicitor in Derby

Family law advice when life changes — divorce, children, finances, with clarity and discretion.

What we help with

Divorce, separation, finances, children arrangements and protective orders — handled with care. Below is a working list — your situation may fit one or more. If you're not sure, ask. Initial conversations are confidential and rarely take more than a few minutes to clarify whether we're the right fit.

  • Divorce, dissolution and judicial separation
  • Child arrangements orders and parental responsibility
  • Financial remedy and consent orders
  • Cohabitation and unmarried couples disputes
  • Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements
  • Domestic abuse and non-molestation orders (urgent applications)

What's typically included

  • Plain-English initial review
  • Written summary of your position
  • Document drafting, correspondence and submissions
  • Regular progress updates by phone/email
  • Sign-off, completion or final order as required

    What's not included (usually)

  • Court fees and disbursements (charged at cost)
  • Counsel's fees if a barrister is needed
  • Translation or expert reports
  • Work outside the agreed scope (re-quoted in writing first)

How the process usually runs

  1. Step 1. Confidential first meeting — your priorities, safety, finances, children
  2. Step 2. Strategy: mediation, negotiation or court route
  3. Step 3. Drafting and progressing — kept up to date at every stage
  4. Step 4. Final order, settlement or arrangement properly recorded
Time-sensitive? Domestic abuse and urgent child arrangements applications can be made same-day where there's risk. Call us directly.

Indicative fees

Our typical starting point for family matters is £250. Initial consultation. Fixed-fee divorce packages available. You'll always get a written quote before any work starts.

Where the scope is genuinely unpredictable (contested disputes, complex cases, multi-party negotiations) we'll quote an hourly rate or capped estimate and stick to it.

Common questions

How long does a divorce take in England?
Under no-fault divorce, a straightforward case takes around 26 weeks from application to final order. Financial matters can take longer if contested.
Will I have to go to court for child arrangements?
Not always. Many cases are resolved through mediation or negotiated agreement. We only recommend court when it's necessary to protect children or break a deadlock.
Can I get an urgent injunction?
Yes. Non-molestation and occupation orders can be applied for urgently, sometimes same-day where there's a risk of harm. Call us on the main line and ask for urgent family help.
