Wills & Probate Solicitor in Derby

Protect what matters. Plain-English wills and estate planning for Derby families.

What we help with

Single and mirror wills, trusts, estate planning and probate support — done properly. Below is a working list — your situation may fit one or more. If you're not sure, ask. Initial conversations are confidential and rarely take more than a few minutes to clarify whether we're the right fit.

  • Single and mirror wills (including blended families and business interests)
  • Trusts within wills and basic inheritance-tax signposting
  • Living wills (advance decisions) and funeral wishes
  • Will reviews and updates after a major life event
  • Grant of probate applications and executor support
  • Safe storage of your will

What's typically included

  • Plain-English initial review
  • Written summary of your position
  • Document drafting, correspondence and submissions
  • Regular progress updates by phone/email
  • Sign-off, completion or final order as required

    What's not included (usually)

  • Court fees and disbursements (charged at cost)
  • Counsel's fees if a barrister is needed
  • Translation or expert reports
  • Work outside the agreed scope (re-quoted in writing first)

How the process usually runs

  1. Step 1. Fact-find — assets, family, wishes and any concerns
  2. Step 2. Draft documents sent to you to review at your own pace
  3. Step 3. Sign-up appointment, witnessing and safe storage
  4. Step 4. Optional review every 3–5 years or after a major life event
Time-sensitive? If something is time-sensitive — a probate deadline or a will needed urgently due to ill health — say so when you call.

Indicative fees

Our typical starting point for wills & probate matters is £180. Single will. Mirror wills from £320. Complex estates quoted after a short fact-find. You'll always get a written quote before any work starts.

Where the scope is genuinely unpredictable (contested disputes, complex cases, multi-party negotiations) we'll quote an hourly rate or capped estimate and stick to it.

Common questions

How much does a will cost?
A straightforward single will starts at £180. Mirror wills for couples are £320. More complex estates (trusts, blended families, business assets) are quoted after a short fact-find.
How often should I update my will?
Review it after any major life event — marriage, divorce, a new child or grandchild, a death, or buying property. Otherwise a review every 3–5 years is sensible.
How long does probate take?
Currently 12–16 weeks for the grant itself, plus estate administration time. We can handle as much or as little of the process as you need.
