Who we are

Venice McDonald Legal Solutions ("we", "us") is the data controller for personal information collected through this website and during the provision of legal services.

What we collect

• Contact details you submit via our enquiry form, email or phone
• Matter-related information you share when seeking legal advice (including sensitive personal data where relevant — e.g. medical, financial, or details of criminal allegations)
• Identification documents required for AML compliance (passport, driving licence, proof of address)
• Technical data from your visit to this site — anonymised analytics, IP, browser type

Lawful basis

• Contract — to provide the legal services you've instructed us for
• Legal obligation — to comply with AML, court orders, regulator requests and our duties as solicitors
• Legitimate interests — to run, secure and improve our site and services
• Consent — for non-essential cookies and any marketing communications

How long we keep data

Closed client files are retained for 7 years (or longer for wills and probate where industry standards apply — typically until 6 years after the death of the testator). Enquiry data that doesn't become a matter is deleted after 12 months.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Have it corrected if inaccurate
• Have it erased (subject to our regulatory retention duties)
• Restrict or object to processing
• Lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk

We share personal data only where necessary: with HMRC, the Land Registry, the Home Office, courts, counsel, regulators, ID-check providers, and our IT and email providers. All data processors are bound by appropriate contracts and UK GDPR safeguards.
